One day, while I was in the rest-room at my office, I noticed disturbing evidence of an internal problem. I decided to call a Christian Science practitioner for metaphysical treatment to help me overcome whatever was wrong. When additional evidence of the problem began to appear, I did not want to be impressed or depressed by the condition, so I made every effort to avoid viewing the more obvious symptoms as much as possible. No one was aware that I was having a problem at the time.
After several months of continued study and prayer, I woke one night in a great deal of physical discomfort, which lasted until daybreak. Several days later the same discomfort again appeared in the middle of the night. This time it was so intense, I called a fellow church member to come over and read to me from the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, as I couldn't do it for myself.
Finally, after several hours— and well into the afternoon—a sense of peace came over me. I felt well enough the following day to help this friend wax his car. Two days later, a large, hard growth passed from my body. It was very clear that God, the great Physician, was the only power in operation, and His work is always done perfectly and completely. I can now see how important it is for one to be steadfast in the truth and follow the command "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3).
