Testimonies of Healing

Warts and other troubles disappear

From the July 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I'D LIKE TO SHARE A FEW of the many wonderful healings I have had through relying on Christian Science over the last twenty-five years. Right after I began reading Science and Health, my attention was drawn to several warts growing on the back of my hand. I called a Christian Science practitioner, who agreed to pray for me. In less than a week, the warts disappeared, and they have never returned.

A couple of years ago, I noticed a growth on the top of my foot. I called my teacher of Christian Science, and he agreed to pray for me. He reminded me that growth can only be spiritual, that God is the source of all action, and that all that can produce or be produced is Spirit. He also reminded me of this statement in Science and Health: "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies. Christian Science acts as an alterative, neutralizing error with Truth. It changes the secretions, expels humors, dissolves tumors, relaxes rigid muscles, restores carious bones to soundness. The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind" (p. 162). I realized that the sunlight of Truth is Christ in consciousness, which automatically eliminates any darkness or shadows. When this was understood, the body corresponded to its normal state. In a couple of days, my foot was completely normal.

In 1995 my family was on a skiing outing in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. I was skiing with our twelve-year-old daughter, Alexandra, and her friend Amy. Normally I would let the kids ski ahead of me, and then I would ski fast and catch up with them. This time, however, I took off down the steep slope first. I was going really fast along the side of the run, because the snow was better there. The girls were right behind me. The next thing I heard was a loud scream. I turned and stopped just in time to see Alexandra ski directly into a big tree. And then it was quiet. She was apparently unconscious. My first thought was, "OK, God, what do we do now?" I just started shouting "the scientific statement of being" as loud as I could while I climbed back up the slope to her. "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual" (ibid., p. 468).
