Could I make it to the game?

From the July 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

After a sleepover one Friday night, I woke up on Saturday not feeling very well at all. My friend and I had been having so much fun the night before that we hadn't gotten to sleep until after eleven. So I was tired. But the house where I'd been sleeping also had cats—one of which had long hair. Lately, I'd been having trouble breathing after being around long-haired animals.

I had a soccer game that day, and I really wanted to play. I remembered a quick healing I'd had the year before when I'd had trouble breathing because of a bad cold. After an hour of prayer, I had been completely healed as I walked onto the soccer field. This made me feel confident that I could have a quick healing this time, too.

When I got home, I told my mom how I was feeling, and we started to pray together. I was thinking about how my dad also had trouble with allergies, but my mom helped me understand that God loves both of us, so neither of us had to suffer. Instead of feeling sorry for my dad or for myself, I could know what was true--that God was taking care of us and keeping us safe and healthy. We read some passages from Science and Health that helped me understand these ideas better.
