Giving is a two-way street

From the July 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Statistically speaking, Paul Worthington is a rarity. As a single man with no children and a thriving real estate business, Worthington fits the profile of those Americans least likely to have an active life as a volunteer. And yet, helping out at church is something he's always done.

"I guess it's just part of my character," says Worthington, who lives in Solano Beach, California. "I think it's fun and rewarding to give time to things you believe in. I don't even look at it as volunteering. To me, it's just something I like doing. It's a part of who I am."

Worthington admits there's little he hasn't done for his local branch Church of Christ, Scientist--from conducting services to washing windows, from teaching Sunday School to rolling up his sleeves at landscaping work parties. And he relishes the diversity.
