One snowy winter day I was taking my usual train ride into work, preparing prayerfully for a very busy day ahead. As I hurriedly came out of the train stop, I saw a large crowd of people gathered, so I stopped to see what was going on. A woman was lying in the snow on the plaza area, near the sidewalk. As everyone was standing around wondering what to do, word went around that she had dodged a truck on the street and fallen— and that an ambulance had been called. I was tempted to think there was nothing much I could do, and that I should move along and get to work. However, I felt great compassion for this woman, and it wasn’t so easy just to walk away.
So I stood there and prayed about what I could possibly do to help. As someone who practices Christian Science healing, I have learned much about God’s all-power and all-presence—seeing it active in my own life and in the lives of others. I knew God was right there, loving her and protecting her.
I knelt down to her in the snow and assured her that God was right there with her.
