The healing and transforming inspiration that can be gained from reading the Bible is endless. Christian Science brings to the study of the Bible an approach based on divine revelation, reason, and demonstration that makes practical every part of the Bible for our modern experience.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, instructs us to “take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life” in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 497). Science and Health helps us to study the inspired Word through a spiritually scientific approach, based on the truths of God and man taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus. Searching the Scriptures using this approach helps us understand and apply God’s Word in ways that bring healing.
While praying for our church and community one day, I found myself reading the account of Jesus healing the man in the country of the Gadarenes who had “an unclean spirit.” I had read it many times before and gained helpful inspiration. However, this time a different understanding of the story was revealed to me that served as a transformational and healing lesson on how to destroy the belief in evil, or a power opposed to God, good.
