WRITING IN a journal can be a good way to pause and think clearly. Maybe you are starting a personal journal at the beginning of this new year. Within it, you might examine the hopes and goals that you feel are foundational to the coming 12 months.
One thing that really helps uplift our lives and elevate our goals is prayer. This journal—The Christian Science Journal—regularly helps us to really think through and take a fresh look at the essence and elements of effective, healing prayer.
A starting point is to ask, Just what is my concept of God? Christian Science teaches that God is flawless goodness—infinite Spirit and perfect Love. Can illness or injury have a place in this infinitude of spiritual good? Although it seems that way, we can question the validity of that in light of many statements in the Bible, such as the following: “There is no God beside me” (Isaiah 45:5). Nothing is present or powerful besides infinite divine goodness.
