Being firmly convinced by experience that the study and application of the biblically based truths of Christian Science heals, is the reason many people choose to consistently rely upon and practice this demonstrable Science. This conviction that Christian Science heals inheres in the acknowledgment that the truths explained in Mary Baker Eddy’s seminal book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, were revealed to her from God, divine Mind. Referring to the writing of this book and her other writings on Christian Science, she says, “I was a scribe under orders” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 311).
From the time of her discovery of Christian Science in 1866, Mrs. Eddy spent the rest of her life proving its healing truths and teaching others how to become effective Christian healers. The last one hundred pages of Science and Health—the chapter titled “Fruitage”—consist of testimonies of healing experienced by individuals solely through the reading of this book.
In the chapter “Christian Science Practice,” she advises readers, “You may vary the arguments to meet the peculiar or general symptoms of the case you treat, but be thoroughly persuaded in your own mind concerning the truth which you think or speak, and you will be the victor” (p. 412). Every healing through reliance upon Christian Science that we experience or witness reinforces this persuasion.
