At my church, a branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, the First Reader frequently opens the service with the greeting “Welcome to this healing service.” Recently, I had an experience with my mom that proved that we do have healing services.
On a Sunday morning we were sitting at the front of the church, where my mom likes to be. During the second hymn we stood up to sing, but then she suddenly sat down in her chair. I looked at her and thought she just needed to rest a minute. But as the service progressed, I realized that she appeared to be unconscious. Her head had rolled to one side and she wasn’t responding to anything.
At first I was in panic mode, with “what if” scenarios running through my mind.
