Testimonies of Healing
With sincere gratitude I desire to bear witness to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. It is nearly eleven years since I commenced the study of this truth which makes free, mainly with the desire to help one very near and dear to me, who was unable to read.
The privilege of investigating Christian Science was first presented to me during the winter of 1889 and 1890. I was a student at the New York College of Pharmacy, energetic in the study of and fascinated by the science of chemistry.
About fourteen years ago conditions in our family had reached such a state, owing to the excessive use of alcohol by one of the members, that our existence seemed to be ruined, and we doubted if a ray of light would ever again lighten our mental and material cares. I heard of Christian Science through my dear sister; and together with her I sought and found the true Christ-way.
In September, 1921, I experienced a wonderful healing and revelation of divine Love. I know no language adequate to express my gratitude for all my blessings.
I wish to express my gratitude to God, and to the faithful and loving practitioner, for what Christian Science has done for me, and will do for all who accept and understand its teachings about God. For six years I suffered from a serious ulcerated condition of the stomach; also from bowel trouble.
In February, 1919, I was discharged from the army with what was pronounced a functional heart disorder. In the next two years this difficulty steadily became more aggravated, and I spent many weary hours going from one doctor to another in search of relief.
When I became a student of Christian Science I was one of the most miserable women living. I spent a great part of my time planning a way to end my life.
When I was a child it seemed as if some one in our family was always sick. My mother had been a semi-invalid for several years, and my sister, brother, and I were far from healthy children.
My mother has often told me that from babyhood I was so frail and weak that when she had to be away from me she was always fearful of no longer finding me alive upon her return. However, I grew up, but had to spend much time in the mountains in order to strengthen myself.
It has been my experience to find the way into Christian Science strewn with obstacles, but with me all the time was a desire to be right; and this desire carried me along so that when the claims of hypnotism, spiritualism, theosophy, new-thought came into my life they made no lasting impression. After this phase had passed, the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was presented to me; but the truths it contains were so obscured by personal sense and falsities in my own thinking as to be well-nigh unrecognizable.
