Testimonies of Healing

The most wonderful blessing which has come to my consciousness through the study of Christian Science is the knowledge that there is only one Church founded on the Christ, Truth. As I was brought up in a small town where there were many denominations, each representing itself as the right one, it took several years' study for me to realize clearly this healing truth and to know that man-made theories and doctrines are but beliefs of mortal mind, not a part of God's law and government.

About five years ago, while suffering from chronic indigestion and anaemia, I was advised to ask for help in Christian Science by a friend whose opinion I much respected. The explanation of Christian Science, as given by this friend, appealed to me as offering a foundation on which to base hope; and as I had been informed by doctors that I should probably develop some disease which I should have no strength to fight in my anæmic condition,I stood greatly in need of a hopeful doctrine.

Four years ago, I heard of Christian Science for the first time. I accepted it after being healed in a single treatment of pleurisy from which I had suffered day and night for about a year.

It is impossible to express in words my gratitude to God for Christian Science, as discovered by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. In reviewing all the blessings brought to our home through Christian Science, I find truly that nothing is "too good to be true," because good is all that is true.

Words cannot express my gratitude for all I have received in Christian Science. I have been healed of many things.

Christian Science was brought to my notice seven years ago, when, broken in health and spirit, it seemed to me that my days were numbered. At that period I was physically so weak, and every condition surrounding me was so discordant, that I contemplated death as a ministering angel rather than as an enemy, as Paul calls it in I Corinthians.

When I look back and think of the road along which I have traveled since the time I accepted Christian Science, my heart overflows with gratitude to God for the innumerable blessings which the understanding of Truth has brought me, an understanding which gives peace even when unrest and confusion seem to surround us. About seven years ago, Christian Science was presented to me at a time when I was earnestly trying to turn in a new direction to find a God more accessible than the one I had hitherto known.

A few years ago I had an experience which seems symbolical of my life before I knew anything about Christian Science. I was staying on a small island off the coast of Maine and was going in a motor boat to another island, five miles distant.

I have received such great benefit from Christian Science that I should like in gratitude to tell something of what it has done and is doing for me. From childhood until I was over forty I scarcely knew what it was to be well, indigestion, with its attendant evils, and rheumatism being the chief troubles.

I should like to express my gratitude for what the understanding of God gained through the study of Christian Science has done for me. After studying the Bible, together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for some time, and feeling well grounded in the truth, there came a time when I was confronted with the necessity of proving the efficacy of the truth I had learned.
