Testimonies of Healing
In the fall of 1907, I was taken ill with a lame back. I did not think of going to a physician for help, but thought to work it out through physical culture.
My first healing through Christian Science occurred a few days after an operation for appendicitis, which had left me in despair and not caring whether I lived or died. An acquaintance, living in the same house, lent me for a few days a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
When Christian Science was presented to me I was in a hospital after a severe operation, with the expectation of three more as soon as I was able to stand them. A Christian Science pamphlet had been sent to me.
For many years I suffered from a floating cartilage under the kneecap. Five years ago I had an operation performed by one of the best orthopedic specialists in the state.
I deem it a duty gratefully to acknowledge a healing which took place from an attack of influenza, preceded by a heavy fall on the ice last winter. At that time I was living where I was surrounded by medical thought and great fear of this particular phase of disease.
I never had been a strong woman; and after giving birth to several children, my health was not improved. In the spring of 1919, I was taken to a private hospital for a surgical operation.
[Original testimony in German] In the first year of the war we read in a newspaper of a lawsuit in which a Christian Science practitioner in Berlin was involved. My mother was especially interested in the wonderful healings to which the witnesses testified.
In 1915, I turned to Christian Science, hoping it would heal me of nervous prostration, from which I had been suffering for about six months. I was engaged in the practice of osteopathy when the nervous breakdown occurred.
With deep gratitude I should like to testify to a healing which I have received through Christian Science. Some months ago I hurt the forefinger on the hand that I use constantly in my work.
Having for more than fourteen years reaped the benefits of Christian Science, I should like to express my gratitude for this wonderful truth. In our home, Christian Science was taken up because of religious dissatisfaction.
