Testimonies of Healing

For thirty-five years before I was led to try Christian Science I had never known a well day. Seven years ago I came to this state with the hope of gaining a little strength to pass through an operation.

For many years I have enjoyed reading the Journal, and often have received help from articles and testimonies therein. A copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was lent to me in 1908, and as I read the first chapter, that on Prayer, I felt that all my preconceived ideas must be turned upside down and inside out if Christian Science was true.

We read in the thirty-third chapter of Exodus, "My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. " This divine presence was wonderfully proved to our family a few years ago when our house was struck by lightning.

Out of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me I desire to give this testimony. During my early life I had been taught to shun Christian Science, and regard it as one of the evils of the age; consequently, as I grew up I looked upon Christian Scientists with intolerance.

With a grateful heart I should like to testify to having been freed from a serious illness through Christian Science. In 1912, I was taken ill with inflamed thyroid gland and heart trouble.

Nine years ago I became interested in Christian Science. Two weeks after a loving practitioner started work for me I was healed of a very serious nervous condition which months of treatment from a physician had not relieved.

Twenty-four years ago, after physicians had told us that my mother had the most dangerous form of femoral hernia, that she could never take a step without wearing a truss,and that even with one her life would be in constant danger, we turned to Christian Science for help. We knew nothing whatsoever about it, although we had seen the effects of Christian Science treatment on a neighbor who had been brought home from the West, in the last stage of consumption, to die.

It is two years since Christian Science was first brought to my notice. The only home that I had ever known was broken up.

What an inspiration are the words of the Nazarene Prophet, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. " I can gladly testify to such a rebirth through the teachings of Christian Science, in which I became interested about two years ago.

Six years ago I was in a depressed condition. Interest in religion was gone,and I was practically an invalid,suffering from tuberculosis of the spine.
