Testimonies of Healing

In December, 1920, I suddenly fell ill with a nervous disorder, which ended in total weakness of the muscles and in cerebral trouble that necessitated my leaving my work, for all mental effort had become impossible. Treatment was advised for me in a well-known clinic, where for three months I received the care that this kind of illness demanded; but I felt no benefit.

My first knowledge of Christian Science came through a remarkable woman who, with her daughter, made her home with us for several years when I was a child. The mother was then about sixty-four years of age, and had been an invalid for forty years, due to a severe hernia and acute stomach trouble.

It is now many years since I became a student of Christian Science, and many are the blessings and healings I have experienced. I cannot conceive what life would be to me without the knowledge of the truth that Christian Science reveals.

I think I can safely say that were it not for what Christian Science has done for me during the past two years, I would not be here today, not because I have been saved by it from any fatal disease, but because my general mental and physical condition was gradually driving me to the serious contemplation of suicide. I had every ill which, according to materia medica, is supposed to herald nervous breakdown.

It is a privilege to add my tribute of gratitude for the healing truth as taught in Christian Science. Through its application I was healed of an abdominal tumor from which I had suffered for several years, having become so abnormal in size that it was very difficult for me to sit down or to turn over in bed.

I am indeed grateful to God and to Mary Baker Eddy for Christian Science. For fifteen years I was in very poor health, suffering from tuberculosis and floating kidney, and unable to do any kind of housework.

It is with humble gratitude for guidance along a rugged path, through earnest and faithful seeking for Truth during a long and tiresome waiting period, and for freedom from a condition of great physical inharmony, that I send this testimony. When I was quite young there was manifested a most irritating condition which the consulting physician named eczema, and for which he prescribed various remedies from time to time, none of which relieved the situation.

"Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice," wrote Paul to the Philippians. I have abundant reason to obey this exhortation; for Christian Science has lifted me from the miry clay of material beliefs, and has shown me the path to spiritual understanding.

Nearly five years ago I first came into touch with Christian Science through seeing my mother healed through its ministrations of what was considered an incurable disease; also, a dear friend, who had been very unhappy, became suddenly full of hope and joy. I could not help but admit that there was some extraordinary power in Christian Science.

After about nine years' study of Christian Science I feel ever increasingly grateful for having been led to inquire into its teaching at a time in my life when everything seemed dark, clouded, and unsatisfying. It has made religion a practical, comprehensible reality to me, and has changed my outlook upon life.
