Testimonies of Healing

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," written by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, we find on page 141 a most wonderful explanation of the stumbling stone which prevents, to a great extent, our spiritual development. She says: "Few understand or adhere to Jesus' divine precepts for living and healing.

We had heard of Christian Science for several years from friends who practiced it, but we gave it very little attention as we always thought that to believe in this Science we would need to witness a very great healing. In spite of this, my mother and one of my sisters went from time to time to the Christian Science Wednesday evening testimony meetings and to the Sunday services, which interested them very much; but I had never attended.

It is with great gratitude that I send this testimony regarding some of the many blessings which have come to me through the study of Christian Science. I became interested in this teaching about seven years ago; and three days after beginning the study of it I was healed of a trouble which had been going on for nearly four years, and for which there seemed to be no material remedy.

I became interested in Christian Science through my husband's healing. After I had gone to church with him for some time the hymns became familiar to me.

In December, 1905, while serving in the United States army at the Presidio of San Francisco, California, I was attacked by what doctors term renal colic, or gravel in the right kidney. I suffered from this so-called disease for four years and a half before I heard of Christian Science.

I have been blessed and sustained by the truth, as taught in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for a number of years. From a child there had been so many material laws laid down for me that my condition had become such that I was looked upon as a confirmed invalid.

I wish to give grateful testimony to the healing power of Christian Science. It has been my only help for over twenty-five years.

I was stricken one morning with influenza. So severe was the attack, that it was with much difficulty I reached my home in the suburbs, some eighteen miles from the city.

It is with deep gratitude that I acknowledge the healing of our two children through Christian Science of chicken pox, measles, and diphtheria. These ills presented themselves at different times, and were quickly healed through Christian Science treatment, leaving no evil after effects whatever.

One evening in the spring of 1918, when twelve years of age, I was running at full speed on the top of a row of bricks, when one of the bricks slipped and I fell on the right side of my face, with all my weight, on a fence of small sticks. One of the sticks pierced my face just where the nostril meets the cheek.
