Testimonies of Healing
In 1915 I was, and had been for many years, a hospital nurse. In a home where I was nursing the conversation turned one evening after dinner to Christian Science.
About the year 1914, after several years of a slow but certain decline in health, I contracted a very heavy cold; and failing to obtain help from local physicians, I went West in search of relief. There I sought advice from one who was considered the best lung specialist in that country, and was told that I was tubercular to an extreme degree; and practically no hope was held out for my recovery.
I wish to testify that I was healed of valvular heart disease, five years ago, through Christian Science. At the time I went to a practitioner for help I was, to mortal sense, very near the end.
I hereby wish to testify that through Christian Science my dear mother was healed of a severe illness. In February, 1923, she had violent hemorrhages of the lungs.
I am very grateful for the privilege of testifying to the unfailing benefits I have received through the study and application of Christian Science. I have been healed of neuritis, chronic constipation, colds, coughs, headaches, malaria, and many other ills.
At the time when Christian Science came to me I was ill physically and mentally. I was suffering from what the doctors call neurasthenia, and after many years of searching among creeds and philosophies for a God who was Love, I had given up the quest as hopeless.
Early in the year 1902, I was given to understand that my services would no longer be needed as a public school teacher, owing to the fact that I had been pronounced tubercular by two physicians. I returned to my home very much discouraged, and shortly afterwards had a hemorrhage for the second time.
About thirteen years ago I was a great sufferer from gallstones, acute indigestion, spasms, and congestion. The last was so severe that the physician could give me no relief.
I wish to express my gratitude to Christian Science for the wonderful healing I had in the winter of 1914. On returning home from a visit, I brought with me a large corn sheller to save going back after it the next day.
I should like to express my deep gratitude and joy for the great privilege of having had Christian Science brought to me, and to give thanks for the friend who brought it, and for all the loving patience she expressed under very trying circumstances in the way of great opposition in my home to anything that should take me away from the Church of England, to which we belonged. I did not come into Christian Science for the healing of sickness; but I came because I saw in it what I had been looking and longing for, what was called in the church I then went to "the second coming of Christ.
