Testimonies of Healing

The protecting power of Christian Science was beautifully proved for us on Christmas morning a few years ago, when just outside our home something serious went wrong with the electric wiring system, so that a very high voltage of electricity passed through the house, and I came in contact with it. I had asked a practitioner for treatment for a slight trouble the evening before, and it was given.

I did not find Christian Science through physical healing: I found it first by searching for I knew not what. While reading the literature I found in Christian Science the answer to questions which had not been answered to my satisfaction in my former church.

I have been interested in Christian Science for about nine years, but have only recently gained some understanding of what it really means; because up to this time I had stood still, making no real effort, but expecting everything. I had only a blind faith, and was waiting for an indefinite something to come along and heal me of my bad habits and help me when I was sick.

I wish to express, in so far as I can do so in words, my deep gratitude for the blessings brought into my life by Christian Science, as revealed by God to this age through His trusted and well-beloved servant, Mary Baker Eddy. I was brought up in Christian Science, and grew to manhood without knowing the taste of medicine.

Christian Science has met every need that has presented itself in our home for seventeen years. Blood poisoning, pneumonia, nervous breakdown, eczema, and children's diseases have all been healed solely through the truth it reveals.

One evening I was thrown down by an automobile. One of the front wheels of the machine went over my legs and then backed off.

I suffered for thirty-five years from numerous ailments, among them serious stomach and bowel trouble, which many physicians and material remedies failed to cure, and seldom relieved; and for almost fifty years I had striven ineffectually under the old teachings of Protestant religions for spiritual light about God and man. I did not know what to believe, or how to get out of my physical suffering.

In 1912 I was in very bad health and constantly under medical treatment. I had never been strong, and doctors said I never would be, as the trouble was constitutional.

It is with a deep sense of joy that I acknowledge what Christian Science has done and is doing for me. My thought goes back over a period of five years to the time when I, like the prodigal son, was living in a "far country," with only the desire to satisfy my constant longing for material pleasure, and selfishly seeking every possible means whereby I might continually enjoy what the world calls a good time.

It is now about three years since I first heard of Christian Science. For a long time before, I had not attended any place of worship; but one Sunday morning I saw a friend who was going to church, and in answer to my inquiry she said she was going to a Christian Science service.
