Testimonies of Healing
We hear so much now of suffering from insomnia that I am sending an account of my healing in the hope that it may bring relief to some one. I had been for many years an invalid from nervous dyspepsia or some kindred trouble, and although I had been under the care of several doctors, some of whom were very kind and painstaking, material remedies were worse than useless, for I was constantly in such severe pain that opiates of greater and greater strength had at last to be administered.
Over three years ago Christian Science was brought into our home by a very dear relative, and since that time has been our only physician, and we are daily proving that divine Love does meet our every need when the truth is rightly applied. Before learning of Christian Science, we had come to the end of our hope in materia medica, having had much sickness, and believe it safe to say that not once did materia medica ever restore us to health, for we were told many times that we must submit to the conditions.
I shall never find words enough in the English language to express my thanks for the good Christian Science has done for me during years of trial with sickness, family losses, business difficulties, and many other trying affairs in everyday life. When medicine failed, God helped me even-time.
In an article written by a correspondent in France something less than two years ago, was the statement that whereas for four weary years Lille had been a city of bitter bondage, she has now become, through the advance of the Allied Forces, "a city of splendid thanksgiving. " At once I saw that that is what the columns of testimony in the Christian Science Sentinel and Journal are,—namely, "a city of splendid thanksgiving.
Now , when the world is looking for light but seemingly beholding darkness, a testimony in praise of God as revealed through Christian Science seems most fitting. The individual who through Christian Science has been healed of fear and extreme mental depression, because of physical illness, has truly seen the light and can no longer behold darkness; for with the understanding that depression, doubt, and fear are but suggestions of the absence of God or light, one soon finds the clouds of error dispelled.
It is only right that we should acknowledge blessings already received through Christian Science, so I sincerely hope that this testimony will be helpful to other seekers for peace and happiness,—which includes health and strength. From the first reading of Science and Health I received benefit, being healed of neuralgia, although I did not understand the book and had only read it partly through.
One Wednesday evening on my way to our weekly testimony meeting, after working all day in town, I was suddenly conscious of an unusual sense of mental and physical fatigue. It was early, as I had to be on duty as usher, so I decided to go first to the reading room for a little while, but found that I could not see to read, the page before me appearing quite blank.
I desire to express my gratitude for the blessings received through Christian Science, and to testify briefly to the wonderful healing received. In October, 1914, I became ill with liver and gall trouble.
It is my desire that the following experience may prove helpful to some who are in the wilderness, and are in doubt as to whether Christian Science can heal. I am a linotype operator in the printing trade, and in July, 1917, began to manifest a number of symptoms of consumption.
About two and one-half years ago, and after having been under the care of different medical practitioners for some years and having received no relief from stomach trouble, chronic appendicitis, and headaches, I decided to try Christian Science. A friend of the family who had heard of some one who had been healed through Christian Science suggested that I try it, although she had never attended a Christian Science service nor had she read any of the literature.
