Testimonies of Healing

About two and one-half years ago, and after having been under the care of different medical practitioners for some years and having received no relief from stomach trouble, chronic appendicitis, and headaches, I decided to try Christian Science. A friend of the family who had heard of some one who had been healed through Christian Science suggested that I try it, although she had never attended a Christian Science service nor had she read any of the literature.

The following testimony is republished because of a misprint which occurred in it when it appeared in the July Journal. ] Shortly after coming into Christian Science I noticed that Christian Scientists did not use tobacco.

With a deep sense of gratitude I wish to testify to the healing power of Christian Science. When about fifteen years of age I began to have stomach and bowel trouble, for which medical treatment was resorted to for a number of years.

I am very grateful to give my testimony to the efficacy of the healing power of Christian Science, which for the past four and a half years has meant more to me than all worldly treasures. I cannot remember ever having been really strong.

We have had so many beautiful proofs of the power of divine Love to heal that I would like to tell of one which has been a constant source of inspiration and gratitude to us. About a year ago my little son caught his hand between the rubber rollers of an electric washing machine while it was in motion.

I have long wished to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is still doing for me, also am more than grateful that there lived one so pure as Mary Baker Eddy; that we could be shown the way to this wonderful truth, that makes free, for I have been made free from all kinds of error. The healing for which I am most thankful, it seems to me, is of a violent temper as well as of love of revenge for those who provoked it.

When I read the testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel I am filled with gratitude to know that the word of God is as potent to heal now as when Jesus lived and worked among men. I have read many testimonies which told how the writers had wondered, before studying Christian Science, why healings were not done now, as in Bible times; but those healings were to me altogether in the past, and seemed too miraculous for this age; and so I could not understand much of the Bible.

I began to study Christian Science in December, 1916. I had been very ill for four years, suffering from bronchitis, weak stomach, anæmia, and other troubles.

Nearly two years ago the clothing of my little two-year-old daughter caught on fire from a gas stove and she was badly burned. My very first thought was of turning to God for healing.

In gratitude for Christian Science I am sending this testimony. I have been healed of a great many discordant conditions.
