Testimonies of Healing
Some of the accounts of healing accomplished by Christian Science seemed to me almost too wonderful to be true until an experience came into my own life that was as wonderful as any of which I had read. In August, 1914, my son, then nineteen years of age, who is on a farm a few miles from Sioux City, Iowa, at about sundown one night was driving through a gate an angry boar, which was foaming at the mouth, when with no warning the animal jumped at him.
Words could never tell all the blessings that have come to me since taking up the study of Christian Science a few years ago. At that time I was in a sanitarium at Pasadena with only a piece of one lung left, according to materia medica.
I am very happy to tell what Christian Science has done for me, thinking it may help others. For fifteen years I was ill most of the time and suffered seemingly from almost every disease flesh is heir to.
It was in January, 1912, that Christian Science was first brought to my notice as a means of physical healing. What little I had heard of it before this time was in criticism.
I appreciate the opportunity of expressing my gratitude for Christian Science through the periodicals, and hope that what I have to say about my physical and mental condition will lead some one to investigate its teaching. For two years I suffered from lung trouble.
It is with the deepest sense of love to God and gratitude to Mrs. Eddy that this testimony is written in proof of the healing power of God as taught in Christian Science.
I am the son who was in the house when my mother fell down cellar and who picked her up, and will say she was in pretty bad shape. While I am not a Christian Scientist, I will say that though I was with her only a short time after the accident, she was up and around each day and was much improved when I left.
It is three years since I first came into Christian Science after a severe nervous breakdown. I was opposed to Science, not knowing what it really is, and thinking it would take me away from a church where we had all been brought up and of which we were members; but I finally decided to try it to please a very dear sister.
Although I had known of many healings through Christian Science and for years had been dissatisfied with the spiritual comfort received from the teachings of the church to which I belonged, yet it required a very severe trial, and then the healing of my husband, to make me willing even to try to understand Science. It was almost a year after that before I began to grasp this glorious truth.
In January, 1914, I went to a hospital and gave birth to a perfectly healthy child, but through negligence on the doctor's part blood-poison set in. On the second day I had a raging fever, for which an ice-cap was put on my head.
