Testimonies of Healing

For about two years I taught music under conditions which seemed to be harmonious with Christian Science, and not until the last couple of months of that period did I notice anything very discordant. Then both children and parents seemed to be manifesting a great deal of inharmony, and it was brought to my attention that my employer was using mesmerism and hypnotism in the classes, was even giving books on mental power and control to the parents.

I became interested in Christian Science several years ago while living in England, and am very grateful for the many blessings which have come into my life through it. An insurance agent who called at our house every week, noticing that I was often in trouble and very irritable, invited me to a Christian Science meeting.

Since my healing through Christian Science of a very serious nervous trouble I have felt the great desire to testify to this experience for the benefit of my fellow men. With regard to this trouble I would confine myself to saying that it caused me dreadful suffering and affected me to such an extent at the time that I believed myself beyond hope of recovery.

I have been studying Christian Science literature a little over a year, but before that time I was always exceedingly bitter and prejudiced against it. One of the things I did not like was to have people tell what Christian Science did for them.

I did not come to Christian Science for healing, but was healed of deafness by reading Science and Health. I was deaf from the effects of scarlet fever, which I had when eight years of age, and had no thought of ever hearing perfectly, for I was gradually growing worse all the time.

I should like to express my gratitude for the regenerating effect Christian Science has had in my life, lifting thought from self and making me a happier and better woman. I did not take up the study for any physical need, yet some beautiful demonstrations of the power of Truth have been given me.

I feel impelled to tell how through God, divine Love, my child's life has been taken care of. She was able to run about and even to talk a little at the age of one year, when she became afflicted with whooping-cough, and being greatly weakened thereby, developed rickets.

When I began the study of Christian Science I wanted to find out what it was that made its followers so harmonious, not only with one another but with every phase of good. One verse in the Bible stood out clearer and plainer to me than any other, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

When Christian Science was first presented to me about fifteen years ago, I was in excellent health, and therefore began to study it merely to understand its spiritual teachings; but it was only after faithfully continuing to do so for over two years that I began to grasp them. The light came all at once.

As I try to find fitting words with which to express my gratitude for a knowledge of the truth, thought goes back to a day several years ago when a telegram was received that my only child had passed on suddenly while far from home. The world was darkened for me in the days of that last sad home-coming, but I tried to look to God, who I felt sure did all things well.
