Testimonies of Healing
After the healing of a member of my family in Christian Science, I began the study about nine years ago. Before the year was over I had a very severe attack of rheumatism.
In the winter of 1910 our little girl, five years old, had a fever which left her in a bad state, her ear being affected so that she became deaf. We had a doctor and also an ear and throat specialist, and both said that an immediate operation was the only hope, as it was not possible for her to get well without it.
I am glad to tell others how wonderfully I was helped by Christian Science in a recent very bad attack of bronchitis. After a long night of suffering my husband was able to get a practitioner on the telephone, and in about an hour after she began treatment I was greatly relieved.
These words of Jesus have always seemed very sad to me: "Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?" Perhaps each of the nine lepers felt as grateful as the one who returned to give thanks, but thought it needless to express their gratitude just then; they were waiting, possibly, for a more convenient season. After having had God for our only physician for over eight years, and having found Him a very present help in every time of need, I feel deeply grateful for all the benefits received through Christian Science, which came to me in the very darkest hour of my life, when I was crushed by a deep sense of sorrow.
It is with sincere gratitude that I give my testimony to the wondrous power of Christian Science, hoping by a life of love and consecrated purpose to show a deeper gratitude than words can ever express. To tell even half of what Truth has done for me would be impossible, so many have been the blessings received during the six years that I have known of Christian Science.
A little over five years ago Christian Science was first introduced in our home. Through the understanding of this wonderful truth we have overcome many errors which seemed very real.
About three years ago I was attacked with what was diagnosed as spinal meningitis, and after suffering from this for five months it was found that my spine had become shortened two inches, which drew my head backward so that I was unable to raise it. My father had five of the most prominent physicians to treat me.
In the autumn of 1908 I came to Christian Science simply for physical help, as I had heard nothing of the great spiritual happiness which would result from the study of its teachings. In June of that year a prominent physician and surgeon of this city had told me, after he had examined me thoroughly, that I had two internal growths which would become larger every year, would result in a gradual degeneration of all the organs involved, and that the only cure would be a capital operation.
In Science and Health we read that "Science can heal the sick, who are absent from their healers, as well as those present, since space is no obstacle to Mind" ( p. 179 ).
Words seem totally inadequate to express what the healing power of Christian Science is to me. It means spiritual and physical regeneration, for Truth has made me whole.
