Testimonies of Healing
A friend and I went hiking on a snow-covered mountain in southern California. Because of the combination of warm days and below-freezing evening temperatures, many of the trails were covered with a sheet of ice.
I would like to share one of my experiences. It all happened like this.
Some years ago I was confined to bed with fever, hallucinations, lack of appetite, and an inability to stand, walk, or move my legs. I prayed for myself, and when I felt in need of prayerful assistance, I called a Christian Science practitioner.
When I was a teen-ager I felt unshakably convinced that divine Science is indeed the promised Comforter. In the words of Isaiah ( 30:21 ): "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
Before my husband and I married, he had become interested in Christian Science. Following the Second World War, he had been healed of deep depression after his physician could do no more for him.
Looking back over the many years during which my husband and I raised a family of six children, I realize what a blessing it was to have had the benefits of Christian Science in our home. While we indeed saw many demonstrations of Christian healing, the experiences of illness or injury were remarkably small.
When I was a young girl my mother was medically diagnosed as having a physical condition considered incurable. Her own mother had been healed of a serious illness by turning to Christian Science, and so my mother now turned to the study of this wonderful Science.
I first became aware of Christian Science when a friend lent me a book relating the experiences of someone who united with the Christian Science movement in its early days. I was attracted to the idea of being able to prove an understanding of God in practical ways.
Some years ago when I was teaching piano full time in our home, I was hurrying one afternoon between lessons to prepare dinner for guests. When I opened a can, the jagged edge of the can cut deeply into my palm.
Christian Science came into our family in 1896 through the healing of my mother as a teen-ager. She had been out of school for two years because of ill health and had been told that her only hope lay in an exploratory operation.
