Testimonies of Healing

One day our two younger sons were out playing when the elder boy was hurt. I went to the child and put my arms around him.

From the age of fourteen years I had suffered each winter with a painful kidney disease and fever. I dreaded this unpleasant situation.

When I left home for college, I was told by my high school coach and a medical doctor that I should not attempt to play college football. They had seen me struggle through a season with a severe back problem and had recommended I give the muscles in my lower back plenty of time to mend.

Before I knew of Christian Science, I suffered from severe migraine headaches, and my hands were covered with warts. I tried many material remedies, but neither condition was healed.

I found Christian Science when I no longer wanted to live. Around me I saw only sadness, the anxiety of a world in search of itself—full of questions with no answers.

[Original in German] Whenever fear or an overwhelming feeling of responsibility makes me doubt my ability, I have found that the truths of Christian Science, about the real man and his relationship to God, are capable of dispelling such a depression "by the renewing of [my] mind" ( Rom. 12:2 ).

One time I had a cold that lingered for several weeks. As spiritually scientific truths were applied, I received intermittent relief and comfort.

As a young woman I was introduced to Christian Science by the man I later married. This Science seemed so applicable to my life, and it gave me the concept of God as Love, which appealed to me greatly.

At one time I became discouraged and worried, full of self-condemnation for what I saw as my inability to attain complete healings. The discomfort of several physical problems had disappeared, but the visible evidence remained.

Thanks to help from teachers in the Christian Science Sunday School and my mother's spiritual alertness, my childhood was relatively free from sickness. Occasionally, however, small boils erupted on my face and neck.
