My first testimony appeared a half century ago. The healings of quinsy, goiter, nervousness, and the blessings of normal childbirth, and improved disposition have all been permanent.
A year ago I tripped in my room and fell forcefully to the floor. At first I was stunned and in much pain—unable to help myself. Then several passages from the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy came to thought. This verse from the ninety-first Psalm was most helpful: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." It was a struggle to hold consciousness to these messages, but I persisted. These words of Mrs. Eddy's were comforting (Science and Health, p. 214): "Neither age nor accident can interfere with the senses of Soul, and there are no other real senses." I felt the power of God's Word and found I could reach my telephone to call for help.
As a so-called senior citizen, I make my home in a sanatorium for Christian Scientists, though I receive no nursing care. I was taken to a room where the nurses could attend to my needs, and a Christian Science practitioner was called to pray for me. I felt God's love as I pondered the first three verses from I John, the third chapter. The first verse begins, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." The inspiration this brought, along with studying "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468), sustained me through the first night.
