Our future—safe in God

From the November 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Some time ago, a learned friend of mine remarked, "The stars dominate us." He was a sincere religious man of strong convictions.

But is it possible for the stars to have any influence on man, the spiritual idea of God? Only one power—the divine Mind, Spirit—governs the universe, including man. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Whatever teaches man to have other laws and to acknowledge other powers than the divine Mind, is anti-Christian." Science and Health, p. 169;

The superstitious belief that the stars and other heavenly bodies influence terrestrial affairs has prevailed since early times. An innate desire to see into the future is what lures people to a belief in astrology. Understanding of the reality of being can lift this longing into the desire to apprehend the eternal presence of infinite Mind, where what we call our past, present, and future is a record of eternal good—as safe in God as God, Himself, is safe.
