Testimonies of Healing
[Original in German] Filled with gratitude, I would like to give an account of my healing through Christian Science. My mother suffered from attacks of depression, and I nursed her for about ten years.
Christian Science came into my life when I was a teen-ager. I was going from one Sunday School to another, looking for a religion that would satisfy me but finding none.
Christian Science healed me even though I knew very little of its teachings. I was faced with a choice between seeking help through material means or complete reliance on God.
Christian Science came into my life just before the outbreak of the First World War. I had been brought up in a religion that seemed to give little comfort, and I can remember longing to find a God of love to whom I could turn in times of trouble and be sure of His help.
Christian Science has been my only physician since my late teens. My mother's healing, after a doctor said he could do nothing more for her, brought Christian Science into our home.
Christian Science came to me during World War I. It comforted and sustained me when my father passed on and a month later when a brother was reported killed in action.
I shall always be grateful that I attended the Christian Science Sunday School as a child. However, when I was in my teens, I drifted away from Science.
When Christian Science was first introduced to me about forty-six years ago, I was walking in utter darkness, declaring that there is no God. It followed that if there is no God, there is no eternal life, and I seemed to be at the end of all things and did not want to live.
Perhaps my life will be an inspiration to others, for I have been a member of The Mother Church for seventy-five years, having joined in 1899. I am now ninety-seven years old.
In February, 1932, one of our neighbors brought Christian Science to my attention because of the continual health problems of our son. Colds, inflammation of the lungs and ears, lack of appetite, and repeated attacks of fever were the recurring symptoms.
