Testimonies of Healing
About twenty years ago I publicly expressed my gratitude for Christian Science in the Journal, and it is time to reaffirm it. I came into Christian Science in 1904 through the healing of my mother of a physical difficulty for which she was already scheduled to have a surgical operation when Christian Science was presented to her.
I have had unmistakable proof over a period of many years that Christian Science, when understood and humbly, honestly, and consistently practiced, brings health, joy, guidance, and healing. My first healing was of a collapsed lung.
One Sunday as our family was preparing to drive to church in our camper bus, I was distracted momentarily and relaxed my foot on the brake. The next thing I knew, our little daughter let out a cry that the wheel had rolled over her foot.
Quoting Psalm 46:1, Mary Baker Eddy states ( Science and Health, p. 444 ), "Step by step will those who trust Him find that 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
I am happy to be able to add to the ever accumulating evidence of the healing power of God as taught in Christian Science. I was born and raised in a Christian Science family.
A few years ago I was confronted with a business problem. It concerned making a decision to dispose of an established family business in which I was involved, because it was not compatible with Christian Science.
Christian Science has changed my whole life for the better; I could not imagine existence without it. During the First World War, I was employed in a canteen for needy children.
When I was a young girl, a dear friend placed a copy of The Herald of Christian Science in my hands saying, "Here is a religion which accomplishes healings as in Jesus' time. " I had no doubts about the veracity of the testimonies I read and was at once convinced that this was the religion I needed.
A momentous event occurred in our family when I was about nine years old. Both of my parents were healed of nervous breakdowns through Christian Science, and in gratitude they began the study of Science and Health by Mrs.
Over thirty years ago a friend gave me a pocket size copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The first thing I learned was "the scientific statement of being," which states, among other good things, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All in all" ( p.
