Christian Science came into my life just before the outbreak of the First World War. I had been brought up in a religion that seemed to give little comfort, and I can remember longing to find a God of love to whom I could turn in times of trouble and be sure of His help. I found through Christian Science the God I was looking for, and a new world opened up for me.
At the time of my introduction to Science I was far from happy and in a poor state of health. Various ailments were making life miserable. Severe headaches and digestive trouble were daily occurrences, and I had frequent attacks of swollen neck glands, a painful condition that kept me confined to the house for days. Treatment by doctors gave me no relief.
I was becoming very despondent, when one day I met a Christian Scientist. She assured me that Christian Science could heal me. She spoke to me of the goodness of God and of His love for all His children. I was so uplifted that I asked her if she would help me through prayer. This she kindly consented to do if I felt ready to throw away the many medicines I was then taking. Realizing what little benefit they had given me, I agreed to this. In a short time my ailments dropped away one by one, and the desire to smoke also left me.
