In February, 1932, one of our neighbors brought Christian Science to my attention because of the continual health problems of our son. Colds, inflammation of the lungs and ears, lack of appetite, and repeated attacks of fever were the recurring symptoms. My anxiety for the boy was great. He was then seven years old, and after long absence from school was once again confined to bed with inflammation of the lungs.
This was the moment I decided to go to a Christian Science practitioner. After my talk with her she promised me she would treat my son, and she gave me a copy of the Dutch Edition of The Herald of Christian Science. She asked me to keep knowing that God is Love and that God loves us. She asked me, too, if I were willing not to give the boy any more medicine. I agreed and kept strictly to this agreement, and the next day there was such improvement in my son that he was able to get out of bed. The following day he was healed. This was also the end of frequent absence from school.
In the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 365): "If the Scientist reaches his patient through divine Love, the healing work will be accomplished at one visit, and the disease will vanish into its native nothingness like dew before the morning sunshine."
