Christian Science came to me during World War I. It comforted and sustained me when my father passed on and a month later when a brother was reported killed in action.
Some years later when our daughter was about four, she had a wonderful healing almost overnight. The child appeared to be seriously ill. A Christian Science practitioner had been praying for us, but the child did not seem to improve. A member of the family who was not a Scientist voiced the opinion that she was dying. As I sat holding the little girl in my arms, I felt overflowing gratitude for the happiness she had brought us. I prayed for guidance, and great peace came to me, like a benediction. To assuage the fear of the relative, I decided to call the physician who had attended me at home when the child was born. This doctor knew we were Christian Scientists and was very kind. He came the next morning.
He explained that she could not speak because she had laryngitis and that she had just passed the crisis of bronchial pneumonia. He asked me to call him in a few days to let him know how we were doing. A Christian Science nurse came to relieve me, and that night the condition was healed. There was no more delirium, and we all slept peacefully. When the nurse received an urgent call the next morning, she was free to leave. The little one walked to the door to bid her good-bye, completely free and her usual happy self.
