Testimonies of Healing

"Thou crownest the year with thy goodness" ( Ps. 65:11 ).

A healing which took place approximately nine years ago was an experience that taught me more about God and man than I had ever known before, and I consider the lessons learned from it to be of inestimable value. Approximately three years prior to this time I noticed a lump appearing at the base of my throat and on one side.

Since I wrote my first testimony, which was published in the Journal in 1956, my family has continued to receive daily benefits, inspiration, supply, direction, and a higher sense of purpose from the regular study of Christian Science and my active participation in church work. The continuation of class instruction through the association meetings these past eleven years has been my rod and staff, truly supporting me through many a valley.

Only someone who has known the misery of being an alcoholic can understand the hopelessness I faced before Christian Science healed me, and how much Christian Science means to me following my complete healing of this degrading appetite. I had volunteered and was already in the Army overseas before Pearl Harbor.

When I first began the study of Christian Science, I thought I was looking only for physical healings. After studying for a while I realized I was receiving far more than that.

I have known Christian Science for seven years, am a member of The Mother Church and a branch church, and have served my church as First Reader and had class instruction. Many wonderful experiences have taken place during this time.

I was in great distress when I first heard of Christian Science. Our young son, then about eleven years old, was suffering from epilepsy, and the disease was pronounced hereditary and therefore incurable by several medical doctors.

From early childhood I had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School. Shortly after I was born, my parents took up the study of Christian Science.

Healing through prayer never leaves us where it found us. More important than the happy solution of a problem is the measure of spiritual regeneration we gain, which, indeed, is a necessary requisite for the successful working out of any problem.

I am glad my mother introduced me to Christian Science at a tender age. Having known no other religion and recognizing the omnipotence of Truth in meeting all human needs, I am most grateful for God's gracious gift to mankind.
