Testimonies of Healing
Christian Science was first presented to us at a time when there was great need for it in our home. My young brother was suffering from valvular heart disease and bronchitis.
Christian Science has been my only physician during times of illness for almost thirty years. During the time I worked, it proved a constant guide, leading me from one position to another, each of which proved to be a progressive step.
My introduction to Christian Science came when I witnessed my wife's healing of a malignant condition. I still thought, however, that the doctors might have made a mistake and that there had been nothing wrong in the first place.
Because I have had so many proofs of the healing power of Christian Science, I submit this testimony with a heart full of gratitude so that others may be encouraged as I have been by reading the testimonies. Until I found Christian Science, I was unhappy and ill.
I can imagine no greater blessing than to have been reared in the home mentioned in my mother's testimony where Christian Science was loved and practiced and to have continued in this atmosphere in a marriage to a loyal student of this Science. From earliest childhood, the habit of turning to this truth for healing has brought many blessings.
This year, 1958, Christian Scientists are rejoicing in the Fiftieth Anniversary of the founding by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, of our great newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor . It was in the same year that the most important event of my life took place: my husband and I began the study of Christian Science upon our return from our wedding trip.
After appreciating and enjoying the testimonies in our periodicals for a number of years, I have come to realize that the best way to say "Thank you" for them is to submit one of my own. A good friend gave us a year's subscription to the Christian Science Sentinel when our family moved to a new locality.
It was an important turning point in my life when I asked for help in Christian Science. I was suffering intense pain from an ear difficulty for which I had received no help from a specialist.
One of the definitions of "grateful," found in a dictionary, is "appreciative of benefits received. " When I stop to consider the many benefits that have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science, I know that it is time for me to express my gratitude in a written testimony.
In "No and Yes," Mary Baker Eddy writes ( p. 39 ): "Prayer can neither change God, nor bring His designs into mortal modes; but it can and does change our modes and our false sense of Life, Love, and Truth, uplifting us to Him.
