It is such a joy to know that I walk with God, along with the ever-increasing multitude of loyal Christian Scientists whose love, gratitude, and devotion to the Cause of Christian Science blend with my own in demonstrated unity of good. For all who have named the name of Christian Science and love it, I am most grateful. I am also increasingly grateful to the God-inspired practitioners, whose tender encouragement and alertness when called upon for aid assist us in making higher demonstrations of God's allness.
On one occasion twelve years ago, I suddenly became very ill, and I feared the last enemy. A Christian Science friend was asked to give me prayerful help. For thirty-six hours all I could remember to cling to were parts of two well-loved passages in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, including the following (p. 14): "Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth." The other passage was a part of the definition of "year," given in the Glossary (ibid., p. 598): "One moment of divine consciousness, or the spiritual understanding of Life and Love, is a foretaste of eternity. This exalted view, obtained and retained when the Science of being is understood, would bridge over with life discerned spiritually the interval of death, and man would be in the full consciousness of his immortality and eternal harmony, where sin, sickness, and death are unknown."
A Christian Science nurse was called. Her thought was so inspired and reassuring that when she entered my bedroom I was instantly healed of the severe pain which had accompanied the belief. I held steadfastly to the truth until my thought was uplifted to behold the effectiveness of God's power in earth as in heaven. I was completely healed and able to return to my work within six days.
