SHALL WE NOT "WOO THE WEARY WANDERER"?

From the April 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is not difficult to picture to ourselves the quiet joy, the quick understanding, the tender compassion, and the complete assurance expressed in Christ Jesus' face as he moved among the people. We remember his invitation "my Father, and your Father" (John 20:17), and we know that many sought him because of his outpouring love.

He did not ask, when appealed to for healing, who was to blame for the blindness, or the sin, or the poverty. Jesus healed. He looked through the masks of sinfulness to the hearts hungry for satisfaction. He did not hesitate to associate with others lest he should encounter erroneous beliefs.

He sometimes dined with publicans and sinners, but he did not compromise with their erroneous beliefs or accept them. Often he rebuked sinners and so destroyed the errors which beset them. Because he was so sure of the omnipotence and omnipresence of God, he had no fear that sin or sickness could be imposed upon him by association or circumstance. He came into the world, as he told Pilate, to bear witness to the truth, and wherever he was, he represented the holy Christ.
