CHRISTIAN SCIENTISTS AND THE PRESENT AGE

From the April 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In their message to the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church on June 2, 1958, The Christian Science Board of Directors referred to Christian Scientists in the present age, stating that although some people may view the age with trepidation, Christian Scientists welcome it and the opportunities accompanying it.

Christian Scientists do welcome the opportunities this age presents, because they are learning to view it in terms of spiritual prophecy. They are finding that when current events are interpreted from this standpoint, their true significance is recognized. Then too, like others, Christian Scientists welcome that over which they consider themselves to have dominion.

The attempts of well-meaning men—and nations also—to reach commendable goals have often been thwarted by lack of spiritual discernment. With such discernment men and nations would have been able to distinguish between ever-present constructive forces and those that are destructive and to align themselves with the one and to avoid the other; and they would thereby have been enabled to achieve worthwhile aspirations.
