NO BEGINNING OR END

From the April 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science teaches that man is immortal. It shows clearly that the real man in God's image and likeness does not undergo birth or death. It reveals man as the spiritual idea of God, forever at the standpoint of coexistence with his Maker, in whom there is no beginning or end.

Theology and philosophy have spent many years in search of a satisfactory explanation of the real meaning of immortality. As a general rule it is thought of as something to be attained in a life hereafter. Christian Science, however, shows that death is not the steppingstone to eternal harmony. It reveals that God is infinite and that man, the expression of God, is included in this infinitude. Our true selfhood is here and now at the eternal summit of its oneness, or unity, with God, untouched by time or mortality.

This fact can be substantiated by a thorough study of the Bible. In the Old Testament we find some impressive records of man's indestructibility. Elisha witnessed the translation of Elijah, who "walked with God: and he was not; for God took him" (Gen. 5:24).
