LIVING UP TO OUR WORDS

From the April 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The right use of terms is important in the Science of Christ-healing. Mary Baker Eddy was careful to choose the words which most nearly conveyed her thoughts. While she found that even these were sometimes inadequate to express fully the spiritual message, her exactness in choosing the words which came nearest to doing this helps to make her discovery of practical use to the average person.

May not there be a similar thought in the statement "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 115), "The great difficulty is to give the right impression, when translating material terms back into the original spiritual tongue."

The words of Christian Science expand in significance as the ideas they express are understood and put into practice. Even if he has an unusual memory for the words he reads, no one can really know what they mean until he lives in harmony with the ideas they express and lets these live with him. This holy embodiment, by reflection of divinity in thought, word, and deed, always results in regeneration and healing.
