"Are we duly aware of our own great opportunities and responsibilities? Are we prepared to meet and improve them, to act up to the acme of divine energy wherewith we are armored?" Mary Baker Eddy asks these questions in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 176).
One of the responsibilities of an usher and worker in a Church of Christ, Scientist, is to uphold in his own consciousness the spiritual concept of Church, the definition of which is given in the Glossary of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 583): "The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle." And since this spiritual concept of Church is included in the consciousness of man, God's image and likeness, then a love of Church is inherent in the true individuality of everyone. No one can ever be absent from the true Church.
The usher must keep this thought before him: that because Church is a universal spiritual idea, no phase of evil can prevent Church from attracting to it humble, sincere seekers for Truth. He has a great privilege in welcoming the pilgrim and stranger to the enriching experience of a service in a Church of Christ, Scientist.
