Testimonies of Healing

It is now twenty-three years since I enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, where I first gained an understanding of the truth, and yet I feel that I have only touched the hem of spiritual understanding. The more I understand Truth, as revealed in Christian Science, the more I realize how little I know compared with what there is to know of God, of Life, Truth, and Love.

Gratitude for the multitude of blessings that have been mine as the result of continued study and application of Christian Science since my first testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel in 1936 impels this further testimony. Because I allowed myself to entertain resentment and self-pity over failures in business, which I believed resulted from no fault of my own, I suffered a severe nervous breakdown.

After I saw my sister instantaneously healed through Christian Science of a severe headache, my first thought was to make this religion my own and to study the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly each day. Previously my sister had been subject to frequent and extremely painful headaches.

I began the study of Christian Science more than twenty years ago when a sister urged me to investigate it for physical healing. For two years I had suffered from a severe stomach and bowel disease, from which physicians said I could not recover.

After a year of medical treatment for a growth in my abdomen, I was told by the doctor, "Nothing but the knife will remove it. " I decided to seek advice from an older sister, who lived in another state.

My husband and I became interested in Christian Science shortly after our marriage, and it has been our only physician and guide for over thirty-five years. My first healing, which was one of weak lungs, from which I had suffered for ten years, was accomplished in one treatment by a practitioner; and it has been permanent.

About fifteen years ago I moved from my home town to a city some thirty miles distant to accept new employment. To meet my immediate need I rented a room in a private house and secured my meals in restaurants.

Christian Science has given direction to my life, and I am humbly grateful that I am learning to conform my life to the Christ-principle it elucidates. I have been able to reject and exclude from my experience the label "a sickly child.

In Psalms ( 40:5 ) we read, "Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. " Indeed, the blessings I have received through Christian Science are more than can be numbered.

I wish to relate an outstanding case of healing which occurred through the application of Christian Science when my daughter was seven years old. She and one of her friends were playing with Christmas decorations in the basement of our home.
