Testimonies of Healing

In Psalms we read ( 75:1 ), "Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. " Because God's nearness has been proved to me many times by His wondrous works, I should like to express my gratitude.

I have been a student of Christian Science since 1916, and during that period I have witnessed many healings in my family. One of them was that of a fractured ankle.

When Christian Science was presented to me over twenty years ago, I did not at first want to read the Christian Science Sentinel that was given me because of adverse criticism I had accepted as being true. However, because I was ill with the hives and because I wanted to please the one who had offered me the Sentinel, I decided to read it, thinking that I would not have to believe it.

With deepest gratitude to God I offer this testimony in the hope that it will help someone as I have many times been helped by reading the testimonies of others. It is more than thirty years since I became interested in Christian Science through my mother's healing of blindness in one eye, following the verdict of an eye specialist that she would never see again with that eve.

I should like to share an experience that proved the healing efficacy of Christian Science. One morning I awoke in excruciating pain and found that I was unable to use my limbs from the waist down.

It is now twenty-three years since I enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, where I first gained an understanding of the truth, and yet I feel that I have only touched the hem of spiritual understanding. The more I understand Truth, as revealed in Christian Science, the more I realize how little I know compared with what there is to know of God, of Life, Truth, and Love.

Gratitude for the multitude of blessings that have been mine as the result of continued study and application of Christian Science since my first testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel in 1936 impels this further testimony. Because I allowed myself to entertain resentment and self-pity over failures in business, which I believed resulted from no fault of my own, I suffered a severe nervous breakdown.

After I saw my sister instantaneously healed through Christian Science of a severe headache, my first thought was to make this religion my own and to study the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly each day. Previously my sister had been subject to frequent and extremely painful headaches.

I began the study of Christian Science more than twenty years ago when a sister urged me to investigate it for physical healing. For two years I had suffered from a severe stomach and bowel disease, from which physicians said I could not recover.

After a year of medical treatment for a growth in my abdomen, I was told by the doctor, "Nothing but the knife will remove it. " I decided to seek advice from an older sister, who lived in another state.
