Testimonies of Healing
The past few years have given me cause to think often of Peter's words when, in writing to the early Christians, he referred to God as the one "who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light" ( I Pet. 2:9 ).
I humbly thank God for giving us Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, who by his teaching and healing, as well as by his goodness and great love, taught mankind a new way of life, and for giving us Mary Baker Eddy, our Leader, who through her study of the Scriptures gave us the revelation of Truth that makes practical the parables and lessons taught by Jesus. Many have been my healings in Christian Science.
When I saw an advertisement which read, "Christian Science services held in English," I went to a Christian Science Society for the first time. I wanted to freshen up my knowledge of English and trusted that the word Christian meant something good.
When I think of the innumerable blessings that have come into my experience because of Christian Science I wonder why I have delayed so long in submitting a testimony for one of our periodicals. I am deeply grateful to our Leader, Mrs.
" Freely ye have received, freely give" ( Matt. 10:8 ).
One does not have to be a student of Christian Science very long before he learns that the brain is not the source of his intelligence. The understanding of God as divine Mind, or infinite intelligence, and of man as the expression of this intelligence appealed to me greatly when I first became acquainted with this Science, and I rejoiced in the opportunities to demonstrate what I knew of it.
When Christian Science was first presented to me I was hungry for the truth, and comfort came from my reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It has continued to be a constant inspiration.
Through Christian Science I have been able to overcome an extreme fear of enclosed and underground places which had troubled me for many years. My wife and I recently toured through northern New Zealand, and when we found ourselves at Waitomo we naturally wanted to visit the famous glowworm cave.
When a child I prayed for the recovery of my infant sister, who was ill, and she became well and strong. I realized that I had witnessed the effects of a healing power beyond that of human hands, and as I became older I searched among the different churches for the source of this power.
With a grateful heart I give my praise and thanks to God for Christian Science and for all that it has done for me and mine. I have found help and inspiration by reading testimonies of healing in the periodicals.
