Testimonies of Healing

A very helpful article in the Christian Science Sentinel...

From the February 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A very helpful article in the Christian Science Sentinel awakened me to the fact that, although I had frequently offered testimonies at Wednesday evening meetings in Churches of Christ, Scientist, I had not yet written a testimony for the periodicals, although this is just as essential. It is with heartfelt gratitude that I acknowledge here a few of the healing benefits that have resulted from my study and application of Christian Science.

At a very early age my mother enrolled me in the Sunday School and gave careful thought to teaching me what she herself understood of the truth. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 449), "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing." This "grain of Christian Science" did indeed do wonders for me, bringing me through many varied experiences as I grew up from the age of twelve without human parents, relying on the understanding that I had of God's relationship to me as Father-Mother. A college education was joyously earned during times of so-called financial stress. Other advantages were enjoyed that many young people do not realize even with human parents and planning. Travel and a most interesting career were among them.

Later, after my marriage to a student of Christian Science, a very happy home was established, and our family has had healings and blessings through the application of our study of the truth. During a severe sickness our oldest child was delirious for days and appeared to be passing on. Through the devoted and untiring work of a consecrated practitioner our fear of this happening was dissolved; and even though the child remained in the same condition for three days and nights, we had no further doubt as to the outcome. During these days we earnestly pondered the full meaning of the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation by Mrs. Eddy (ibid., pp. 16, 17). The child's recovery was quick and complete, and though she had lost much weight, it was rapidly regained.
