FREEDOM FROM INFIRMITY

From the February 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In its teaching of the allness of God, Spirit, Christian Science establishes the fact that the material concept of existence, based on the testimony of the erring physical senses, is false and illusive and its effect of sickness, sin, and mortality erroneous, hence eradicable. This teaching of the Christ, Truth, the impersonal Saviour, comes to the human consciousness for the redemption of mankind.

The real man, being the creation or expression of God, is the freeborn emanation of divine Mind and is never in bondage. He reflects in unlimited and unlessening degree God's divine nature, wholeness, and purity. In fact, he is the expression of God's will and wisdom. Perceiving this truth, the Apostle James declared (1:18), "Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures." How then can man be enslaved? God, divine Love, being All, who or what could place him in bondage? It was the mission of Christ Jesus to teach and demonstrate man's God-ordained freedom and dominion, thereby halting humanity's seeming procession into darkness and gloom.

Cause and effect, Soul and its harmonies, Mind and its unerring ideas, are inseparably joined together. These self-evident scientific truths, when realized and affirmed, enable us to reject the claims of evil as illegitimate and powerless to hurt us, and to assert our just claim to freedom from mental, physical, and moral infirmity.
