Testimonies of Healing

Many have been the blessings which...

From the February 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many have been the blessings which have unfolded in my experience, of which I shall relate but a few. As to physical healings, one in particular stands out. While visiting in a neighboring state I was seized by a virulent and distressing condition of intestinal influenza. Within a few days I felt able to return to my home, and I reported as usual to the college to carry on my teaching duties. After teaching one class, however, I realized that I should be at home with my textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, working to know my unity with God as His beloved son and the nothingness of the distressing condition. I went home and studied earnestly. Toward evening I realized that the problem required greater spiritual understanding, so I called a practitioner. Through his help I was healed within a few days. At that time I was suffering from a condition of serious constipation, which I had not mentioned to the practitioner. When I did so, it was corrected within twenty-four hours, and it has never returned.

The need for a position has been met repeatedly through Christian Science. During the Second World War, I was with the Navy in a civilian capacity, teaching mathematics to trainees. At the end of the war I was left without a position in the middle of winter. Working on this problem as we are taught to do in Christian Science, I knew that the real man is ever in his right place and that as an idea of infinite Mind I could not be unemployed. Almost immediately a high school principalship was offered me, demonstrating God's loving care for His children and proving Mrs. Eddy's words (Science and Health, p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."

When my work for this school was completed I very much wanted to take the progressive step of class instruction. I applied to a consecrated teacher and was accepted. Almost immediately after the blessed experience of class instruction I was offered a professorship in one of our leading universities. Because of an age limit, however, the problem of finding a position soon had to be met again. Christian Science solved the problem and led me to a private college, where for a number of years I was happily and joyously employed in working mainly with many of our returned soldiers.
