Testimonies of Healing
The voice of Truth speaks through the melody of Love to the heart hungry for harmony. For twenty-three years I have listened to its heavenly strain and for twenty-three years it has sustained, healed, and blessed me.
More than seventeen years ago I had my first healing in Christian Science. At this time I knew nothing whatever of this Science, had never seen a Christian Science Quarterly, and had never attended a Christian Science church service or lecture.
When I was a very young child I suffered attacks of malarial fever. The treatment of the physician who attended me brought little relief, however, and the illness was prolonged.
Over thirty-five years ago I was healed of inflammatory rheumatism from my hips down and also of consumption, which was supposed to have been inherited, as my father had passed on from this condition a few years before. We did not have much understanding of Christian Science, but rny mother clung to the thought that Science would heal me.
When a child I was invited to visit a Christian Science Sunday School, and I am so grateful that I was receptive enough to realize that Christian Science is the truth; I never again desired to go hack to my former Sunday School. For the first time it was explained to me what God is.
I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School in my early teens, but I did not keep up the study of Christian Science. After I was married and when our oldest son was a baby, he was constantly troubled with colds.
Christian Science was first presented to me in 1910, at which time I had a passing interest in it as one of the many religions and philosophies which I had investigated in my search for a satisfying faith. In the summer of 1913, however, I was in a state of mental depression bordering on melancholia.
During World War II my husband, our two children, and I did not have a home of our own, and the necessity of living with others made me very despondent and frustrated. My mother, who is a Christian Scientist, advised me to seek help from a Christian Science practitioner.
It was my privilege to be a member of a Christian Science Organization and to serve on its various committees during my college years. I am especially grateful for the privilege of serving on its lecture and meta-physical committees on the fuller understanding of the meaning of service and the great inspiration that came to me as a result of this work, I am deeply grateful.
I thank God with all my heart for Christian Science, for it has abundantly blessed my life. I suffered from a severe case of tuberculosis of the lungs and was not expected to recover.
