Testimonies of Healing
SEVERAL years ago, through the influence and kindness of a friend who had been healed of a complication of physical ailments of long standing through the application of Christian Science, I was led to seek this help after I, too, had suffered for about seven and a half years from a complication of physical diseases. During these years of physical torture I had had the services, alternately, of three reputable physicians—considered to be the best medical skill in a southern city in which I resided; in addition to which medical treatment I had as an aid many of the numerous patent medicines, electrical treatment, exercises of various kinds, and a sojourn at a famed health resort.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE has been my only help for over seventeen years. We have had many proofs of its healing power.
IT has long been my desire to express gratitude for many blessings received since taking up the study of Christian Science. Before knowing of this Science, I was never well.
FOR twenty years I attended the Christian Science church, always turning to its teachings for help whenever anything serious presented itself, but I was a dormant student and church member. Finally there came a time when physical trouble —violent sick headaches, constipation, and painful internal hemorrhoids—did not yield readily to treatment.
ABOUT ten years ago a member of my family was very ill, and after two years, when doctors of medicine were of no avail and we did not know where to turn, this person sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner and soon thereafter was in normal health. This was very wonderful to me, and while it made a lasting impression, I did not at the time ask any questions as to how the healing was accomplished.
IT is with a heart full of gratitude that I wish to acknowledge what Christian Science has done for me and mine. It was brought to my attention for the first time by a friend who had been leaving literature for my mother, who had been suffering from asthma for many years.
IT seems at times that no one has more reason than I for deep thankfulness for Christian Science, which found me when life seemed useless and all efforts futile. I was standing, as it were, on the curbstone of life, watching the world's hurrying and scurrying for a purpose it could not itself logically define.
IN grateful acknowledgment of what Christian Science has done for me in the past years and is still doing, I give this testimony. I took up the study of Christian Science for a condition which had been diagnosed as nervousness, causing severe stomach trouble and extreme melancholia.
MY mother and I became interested in Christian Science over fourteen years ago. She had been physically weak since the time of my birth and suddenly became paralyzed from her hips down.
MY coming into Christian Science was not for physical healing, but to gain a better understanding of God. My first attendance at a Christian Science service proved to me that I had found the truth, and in a short period proof of its healing power came to me.
