Testimonies of Healing
I SHOULD like to express my gratitude for Christian Science. When it was presented to me sixteen years ago by a very dear friend, I was sick and weary of life and prayed that I might die, as I never enjoyed a well day.
BEING a homemaker and a mother, for a long time I had been seeking a religion which could be applied to my daily life. Then I found Christian Science.
HAVING received many blessings through the study and application of Christian Science, I too desire to add to the "good tidings of good" as they are published in our periodicals. I am profoundly grateful for the Christian Science activities and for the privilege of serving in some of them.
ABOUT fifteen years ago Christian Science was brought to my attention through my husband's mother having been healed of influenza. At that time I felt it was all right for those who could understand it, but I thought I did not need it for myself or my family.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE was first introduced to me at a time when I was in great need, mentally and physically. I had taken a new position, and my employer laid The Christian Science Monitor on my desk, saying that it came once a week because the company carried an advertisement in its columns, and since he received it daily, I could have this copy.
[Original testimonies in Russian] In 1925 our only daughter was pronounced incurable by the best physicians of our town; the specialists abroad took X-ray pictures and confirmed the diagnosis of local physicians—tuberculosis of the spine— and the verdict of our friend and doctor was that she would stay in bed in a cast till the "natural" end, meaning death. He also added that she might last ten or twenty years, but that she would never be able to get up because of the dislocation of the vertebrae.
When I was in my early twenties I became, as I thought at the time, very much interested in Christian Science. This interest was more of a blind enthusiasm, the letter without the spirit or understanding of the Christ.
About two years ago I had a healing through Christian Science which taught me more than many years of study. I was healed within a week of a bad attack of shingles.
Twenty-three years ago, while I was at a sanatorium for tubercular patients, a friend told me of Christian Science and of its power to heal all discord and disease. As I pondered my friend's statement, for the first time in months I began to have hope.
From early childhood I was in poor health much of the time, and had more than the average share of bad habits. Indirectly, through the healing of an aunt, and more directly through what I saw Christian Science do for my mother, I became interested in this Science in 1912.
