Testimonies of Healing
I first heard of Christian Science in 1912, when I was instantaneously healed of a very badly sprained ankle. I attended church services a few times, and when, about July, 1913, a dear little sister was taken violently ill with gangrenous appendicitis and the attending physician gave us no hope of her recovery, I told her of the Lord's Prayer as understood in Christian Science.
I removed the two wisdom teeth for Miss Dorothea A. Davis, as stated in her testimony.
Some years ago my dentist thought it necessary to remove a wisdom tooth that had come through the gums in a semiupright position. This dentist knew that I was a Christian Scientist, and I asked him if he would extract the tooth without using any kind of anæsthetic.
I think it might be a help to others to tell what I owe to Christian Science. It was during the war, and in a time of great trial, that I got my first glimpse of the meaning of the words, "God is love"; and that understanding was the greatest joy and comfort I ever had.
Gratitude impels me to send this testimony and to acknowledge a few of the numerous blessings that have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science. When it was first presented to me I accepted it more as a religion than as a healing power, but it was not very long before I realized that Christian Science heals the sick and the sinning.
Over thirty years ago several pieces of Christian Science literature were left at our home by a stranger who had been given shelter on a stormy night. At the time we were unaware of the angel-visitant which had come to us.
For many years Christian Science has been my only physician in sickness, my refuge in trouble, and my guide in perplexity. It has given me strength in weakness and courage when the way seemed dark.
Many years have passed since first I picked up the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy out of curiosity to see what it might contain. I had always been a great lover of books, and when I saw a certain person carrying a small black book around, I did not rest until I had asked to see the book.
I am deeply thankful that Christian Science, with all its infinitely rich blessings, entered my life. Illness led me to take it up.
I wish to testify to the accuracy of the statements in the above testimony by my wife, and also to express my gratitude for the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. — C.
