Testimonies of Healing

When Christian Science found me I was at what seemed the end of this mortal existence, a wreck physically and mentally. One morning when I awoke and turned in bed everything went black and I seemed to slide into a dark hole.

As one advances in the study and application of the truth as gained through the teachings of Christian Science, given by Mary Baker Eddy in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," one continues to find a deep and ever increasing measure of gratitude to God, the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Over thirty years ago Christian Science was introduced to us through the healing experienced by a member of our immediate family, after physicians had stated the case to be hopeless.

For all the good that has come to me and my family through Christian Science I should like to express my gratitude. I learned of Christian Science when our daughter, then an infant six weeks old, became ill with violent whooping cough and was so worn out by the disease that we doubted her recovery.

Christian Science came to my attention fourteen years ago, when we were living in the South and stopping in a home where there were several Christian Scientists. My husband became interested, and started reading the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly with one of them.

When Christian Science first came into my experience, I was most miserable. Through misunderstanding, willfulness, selfishness, and stubbornness I had been separated from family and home.

I first heard of Christian Science when a child between six and seven years old, at which time my father was healed of a severe and so-called chronic stomach trouble. About a year later my grandmother, whom I had always known as an invalid, unable to walk or to eat any but a very light diet, was also healed.

I am grateful to have the opportunity to express my gratitude to God, the Giver of all good, for Christian Science. Over twenty years ago, in a time of great need, when all seemed dark and hopeless, I was led into Christian Science.

Christian Science was first brought to my notice in 1892. At that time I was very much dissatisfied with my understanding of the Scriptures, although reared by devout Christian parents who each morning called us together for prayer and Scripture reading and a hymn before we started our day's work.

For three years I had been suffering from rheumatism in one arm. Then the other arm became affected so badly that I could hardly raise the hand to my head.

For many years I had been seeking a reason for all the suffering of mankind and the mistakes made in spite of their good intentions. I had been among destitute and hopelessly sick people, which led me to witness the healing through Christian Science of a so-called incurable cripple, who was also penniless.
