Testimonies of Healing
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I add my testimony to those which appear regularly in our Christian Science periodicals, and which are a source of great joy and refreshment to me. Christian Science was brought to my notice by a dear aunt.
I am writing this testimony to express my gratitude for the many healings I have had in my years of study of Christian Science. My grandfather was a minister of a Protestant church, and, of course, we children attended the Sunday school.
In September, 1918, when I was discouraged, sick, and unhappy, Christian Science was presented to me. It was then that the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, became a close companion.
It is with gratitude that I testify to the healing power of Truth. For nine years Christian Science has been my only physician; it has met and is meeting my every need.
My gratitude for physical and mental freedom gained through the study and application of Christian Science is unlimited. This religion held forth to the members of my family the loving invitation to "accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God,' and be free!" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p.
I did not turn to Christian Science primarily for physical healing, though the instantaneous recovery of a sister from a so-called incurable complaint, through the work of a Christian Science practitioner, roused my interest and brought the conviction that there was a power beyond and above what I had hitherto surmised. This led me to hope that there might also be help for chronic dissatisfaction and unhappiness, believed to have been caused by a grievous loss earlier in life which seemed to blight and bring to failure my every undertaking and to leave me restless and unable to persevere in any work, or to stay anywhere sufficiently long to succeed.
With a grandfather, a father, two cousins, and a sister graduates from medical colleges, and with a loving mother eager to dispense in generous doses whatever they prescribed, I have had a great deal of medical treatment; and I am grateful for the love that prompted my parents to use the very best remedies of which they knew. When a baby three weeks old I contracted a very severe case of lung trouble; in fact, my twin brother passed on at that time with the same complaint.
Christian Science was brought to our attention twenty-nine years ago. My father and my mother became interested in it through a sermon delivered by their orthodox pastor with the intention of denouncing Christian Science; but instead of accomplishing its purpose, it led them to investigate this religion.
I am sincerely grateful to have found Christian Science, which has pointed out to me the path to health and true peace. About eleven years ago I suffered from an abdominal trouble which on examination the physicians said could be cured only by an operation.
At the age of four I became very ill with indigestion, and this trouble grew worse as time went on. When ten years old I was put on a very strict diet, which I followed for many years.
