Testimonies of Healing

What words can better express my gratitude than the giving of thanks to God for Mary Baker Eddy, who so unselfishly labored to teach all humanity the joy of living! When I was a small child, my great compassion for suffering people made me desirous of knowing the cause of so much suffering. I always pondered the meaning of these things until about six years ago I found myself on the verge of suicide, and only my great fear of the grave halted the step.

In gratitude to God for leading me and mine into Christian Science I give this testimony. Christian Science came to us in an hour of great need.

In 1898 my parents became interested in Christian Science when my mother received an instantaneous healing of tuberculosis of the bowels, after the physicians had stated that she could not recover and would live only a few hours. As the nearest Christian Science church was twenty miles away, the argument of not having contact with the church finally gained ground, and they returned to their old church.

Since 1912, the year in which I had my first healing through Christian Science, I have turned to no other physician in time of sickness, accidents, or trouble of any kind, than the great and only Physician, God. As we have a family of four boys, there have been many problems to meet.

Knowing so well what it is to be in bondage to the subtle habit of smoking cigarettes and what it means to be freed from it, and hoping that my experience may be helpful to someone else, I am sending this testimony. I smoked cigarettes regularly for about fifty years.

In the past twenty-five years Christian Science has never failed me when rightly applied. Perhaps no one was ever more antagonistic to what he thought Christian Science to be than I, for I had never read one line of Christian Science literature, but instead had read destructive criticism.

Before the complete and permanent healing of a member of my family, I was much prejudiced against what I then thought was Christian Science. I loved, and shall always love, the church of which I was a member and which had done so much for me and for my children.

It is a great pleasure for me to be able to verify my mother's many wonderful healings in Christian Science. I have been a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School for five years, and for this blessing I am deeply grateful.

It is time for me to show my gratitude to Christian Science for the healings and comfort I have received during a period of seven years and a half. It would take too long to tell them all, but of the first experience, which led me into this wonderful truth, I should like to write.

When Christian Science is studied and applied as it is given to us by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, it will be impossible to avoid the good that will come to us. I speak from actual experience.
