Testimonies of Healing
"Fear not: for I am with thee" ( Isa. 43:5 ).
Christian Science has been guiding me daily in my work as an elementary school teacher, and before that during my college years. About two years ago I learned the valuable lesson that one should immediately apply Christian Science to problems.
My grandmother took up the study of Christian Science in the early nineteen hundreds. My mother, then in her teens, accepted the teaching, and both spent many years in devotion and consecration to this truth.
Christian Science came into my life when I was a child, but as something to be used only when one was ill. In other words, it was used in lieu of medicine.
I have had many positive proofs that Christian Science really does work, and through it I have been healed in time of sickness and protected in time of war. When I was in my teens, I was first attracted to this religion through the example of twin sisters of my own age who were Christian Scientists.
In our home we have had many proofs of God's healing power, as well as of a sense of peace and well-being engendered by His loving protection and care. I am especially grateful for the quick healing, through the application of prayer as we are taught in Christian Science, of burns of the face and chest experienced by our younger son three summers ago.
When I was a small child, I was considered very delicate, and one illness seemed to be followed by another. Then my father was wonderfully healed by Christian Science treatment after the medical doctors had given him up; in fact, it was one of the doctors who suggested that he call a Christian Science practitioner for treatment.
My introduction to Christian Science was at a lecture on it many years ago. I had been searching for a religion applicable to everyday living ever since I was sixteen.
Even though my parents are not students of Christian Science, I had the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School for a few years. It was natural therefore that I turn to Christian Science in a time of need many years later when, among other things, I became concerned about my heavy drinking.
At a time of great mental distress I opened the Bible at random and read these words: "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength" ( Isa. 40:31 ).
